C&O Canal Water Rescue
Just before 6pm on May 14, 2025 units from Williamsport and surrounding water rescue assets responded to Lockwood Road in Williamsport to rescue a trapped hiker on the C&O Canal. The hiker called 911 and reported that he was trapped just after the Interstate 81 overpass on the canal and surrounded by flood water.
Crews from Williamsport, Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company, and Washington County Division Of Emergency Services made access to the canal at Lockwood Rd. Via boats, walked to the trapped hiker, and brought him back to EMS crews for evaluation.
